Reconstructing Science and Thought

The Foundation for the Study of Science and Thought (BILDEV) was established with a vision that transcends the conventional understanding of science as mere technical progress. It embraces a broader philosophical inquiry into the intellectual, civilizational, and human dimensions of knowledge. Deriving its name from this foundational approach, BILDEV aims to contribute to the philosophical and conceptual foundations of both the social and physical sciences. By providing a space freed from institutional, bureaucratic, and cognitive burdens, the foundation supports thinkers, researchers, and innovators in addressing the grand questions facing humanity.

Contemporary universities have increasingly failed to respond to these intellectual demands. Burdened by bureaucracy, politicization, and careerism, they suppress intellectual creativity and originality. While once central to knowledge production during the industrial revolution, universities have now become rigid, outdated structures. Their primary focus has shifted to credentialism and workforce preparation, often neglecting the interdisciplinary freedom, innovation, and critical inquiry that true scholarship demands. Genuine intellectual labor must be not only interdisciplinary but also open to revising its institutional forms, methods, and modes of inquiry.

The establishment of BILDEV responds directly to the intellectual and civilizational crisis of our time. The dissolution of the Western-centric international order has destabilized long-standing assumptions about knowledge, power, and human progress. While some argue that the future will be shaped by those who dominate artificial intelligence or space exploration, we believe the core challenge facing humanity lies in redefining the conceptual foundations of meaning and order. Scientific and technological progress alone will not secure the future. Only those capable of rethinking the fundamental assumptions of science, society, and civilization can guide the human condition toward a meaningful direction. BILDEV was created to support such efforts.

With this conviction, BILDEV offers a space committed to originality, criticism, and the cultivation of universal human values. For us, thought production is not confined to academic publication; it involves engaging with fundamental questions concerning humanity, meaning, and civilization. We uphold the values of originality, interdisciplinary inquiry, critical reflection, and fidelity to the intellectual legacy of Islamic civilization. We categorically reject commissioned research for state or corporate interests, as well as sectarian, dogmatic, or partisan agendas. We welcome projects that are rooted in innovation, questioning, and the construction of new conceptual frameworks.

BILDEV does not cater solely to academics. Rather, it embraces all thought leaders who place meaning at the center of their intellectual pursuits. Our focus is not local but global; not temporal but civilizational. Our initiatives range from education and knowledge production to cultural and intellectual renewal. We aim to build a foundation that not only responds to the challenges of today but also anticipates the crises of meaning in the future.

In the coming decade, our goal is to establish a campus where the world’s most promising minds can gather to think, discuss, and explore ideas in a free and idealistic intellectual environment. This campus will serve not only as a physical space but as a mental and cultural hub for critical inquiry and visionary thought. Our mission is to support those who dare to pose and pursue the most fundamental questions concerning knowledge, truth, and meaning—and to build new paths forward.

Our inspiration comes not only from renowned centers of advanced study in the modern world but also from the rich intellectual traditions of Islamic civilization. For us, legacy is not found in institutions alone, but in the inheritance of thought. BILDEV exists to bring together minds capable of carrying this legacy forward into the future.
